The portrayal of the Trickster, Coyote, in The One About Coyote Going West is completely different from the Coyote and Duck story. In Coyote and Duck, Coyote does not learn his lesson, just like how many colonizers fail to acknowledge how they contributed to the assimilation of a culture. Coyote continues to take from the Ducks regardless of how it effects them because he does not care about the state of the ducks, he simply wants what will benefit him the most: “Feathers are feathers. And even if all the large ones are gone, after a while, Coyote is going to come back, looking for the smaller ones. For he has an insatiable appetite.” (p.129).
