This word “battle” may suggest an internal fight, of Heidi against her mother’s death. This battle is won by realizing how loved she is, because she found friends support and his father’s attention during the fight she faced. As an external interpretation it may be that she has already get want she wanted, and that she would stop fighting and was her hair
“Tears in the kitchen, telephone calls to school”
The fact that tears are mentioned shows that there were feelings behind the rebellion, this shows the cause of the situation and the alliteration suggests and emotional charge.
