The Planning process, Then and Now:

Main Project

Research on our Audience, and what they want to see in a film opening

Prelim

No Audience research needed, as we didn't have an audience

Planning of the concept of the sequence

Planning of the concept of the film, and the sequence

The Brief

The Brief

Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

Produce a 2 minute opening sequence of a fiction film. All video and audio material must be original, produced by the candidate(s), with the exception of music or audio effects from a copyright-free source. It should be clear from your sequence who the target audience is.

Main Filming

Much more complicated than the prelim as we had to take into account lots more concept areas such as genre and narrative theory

Loads more time than the prelim, so we had to plan out many more shots, and this took more time

More detailed than in the prelim, as we had to take into better account cast and call and rap times for each shot. However, we didn't have such a small amount of time.

Harder as there were more locations we had to work from and create plans for

More kit to deal with and transport to and from shoot to think about

We didnt have this in the prelim and it really helped our project, but it took a lot of time to work out what needed re shooting and what we could keep

Creation of the animatic from our storyboard to give us a better idea of how the shots would work all together

Work out if anything needs to be changed again, one last time

Creation of shot list and shootboards of what we wanted to re-shoot

Back-up shoot
