Using technology to cater for students whom have disabilities.
Apple devices cater for students whom have visual and hearing impairments.
Siri & dictation- Students can record what they would like to write to someone, and have it replayed back to them. An effective tool enabled by Apple
If a student has a form of ASD, the teacher can restrict a student from working off task by restricting the ability to press the home button to do other things that are irrelevant to learning.
If students have a visual impairment, an apple device can read a student's email and have the words highlighted as they are read out to the student
The iBooks application on apple devices enables students to view images in 3D, video, audio and highlighting important words to students which engage them in the learning process.
Ibooks also enables dictation, voice -over and built in review questions to ensure learning has taken place.
When students are researching a particular topic to reduce student off task activity, Safari Reader removes side bar advertisements, irrelevant distractions, speak- over and dictation to ensure students can focus on the task required.
All apple devices have a built in dictionary, when students are learning a new topic or misunderstand the meaning of a word/ subject, students can type the word that is misunderstood and can find the definition and thesaurus.
Word prediction is a tool enabled by all Apple devices and enables students who are unsure of how to spell a word to appear in smaller writing below the attempted writing.
The Zoom feature on Apple devices enables students with a visual impairment to see text and images clearer, rather than viewing the resource on paper which can create difficulties with learning in the classroom.
