People can redeem themselves through sports
Darryl Strawberry struggled with cocaine addiction. He was actually kicked out of a rehab. He finally found himself in a different rehab and wet on to have a great baseball career.
Michael Oher was a 1 of 12 children in his family his father was in and out of jail and his mother was addicted to drugs he was in and out of being homeless. In his childhood, he was in foster care. But was finally taken in by a loving family and then went on to be in the NFL.
Brett Favre struggled with painkiller addiction. But redeemed himself by getting clean and continuing to prosper in the NFL.
People Can leave a legacy through civil right
Mr. Luther King Jr. is also a wide world known leader for Civil Rights. He lead a lot of great marches that played a big role in the war for Civil Rights. He especially left a legacy when he delivered his "I have a dream" speech.
Bayard Rustin also left a legacy through Civil Rights. He helped organize a lot of the meetings that MJK did. He played a big part in letting the public get to know MJK
Famous Rosa Parks left a legacy for herself. She is known for a famous act. She would not give her seat when a white man wanted to have her seat. Rosa Parks is black and at the time if a white person wanted our seat if you where black you would have to give up your seat. She is now known for the simple act of saying no.
People can redeem themselves through music
Fredrich a boy in Echo, lives in Germany when Hitler rules. He has a huge birthmark. He has to get this huge surgery to get the mark removed. He is also ridiculed because he would air conduct. He later goes on to become a great conductor.
Michael from Echo is an orphan who has a little brother who is also a kid. A few months after Michael was put into the orphanage these mysterious men showed up. These men asked for Michael. Michael was asked to play the piano. After he plays the piano these mysterious men adopt him.
Turns out that the men where for this queen. She was heart broken because her dad had died. It turned out she wanted a girl. Sadly Michael and his brother where adopted so she was not so happy. One day Michael plays the piano. This playing was the start of a bond between Michael and the queen.
Ivy a girl in Echo, wanted to redeem herself because she got made fun of because she was Mexican and they were considered dirty and had head lice and things like that.
People can leave a legacy through writing and speech
Anne Frank left a legacy for herself through her diary. Even though she is dead her soul lives through publishes and plays copied off her diary. We read a play on her diary called Anne Franks Diary.
Mr. Luther King Jr. left a legacy for himself by delivering his famous speech ¨I Have a Dream.¨ This shook many hearts around the world.
Hellen Keller was deaf and blind. She didn't learn how to speak. Later in life when she was about 6 she got help from another impaired person named Anne Sullivan. Anne taught Hellen how to communicate through hand language. To do this she would do the hand sign and put whatever it was in Hellen's hands.
Hellen Keller then went on to help more impaired children. Even though she couldn't speak she left a legacy through speech because she learned to communicate while being blind and deaf.
People can leave a legacy through sports
Michael Phelps is known world wide for his Olympic performances. He has the most gold medals and has left a legacy for that. He will be remembered for ages.
Rocky Marciano left a legacy through his one punch knock out. He also went 49-0 and 43 of those wins where knock outs.
Sandy Koufax left a legacy for being a great baseball player. He had 4 world series rings, four no hitters, and a perfect game. This is one of the hardest things to do in baseball
People have a social responsibility to look after each other.
When I (Connor) was injured my parent took me to the hospital. My friends then took turns making sure I was okay.
When my friend broke his leg I helped him. I would stay in for recess and when he was able to go outside but not play I would sit at the table and play chess with him.
When my friend was injured on the court no one else could pick up the signs that he was injured. I was able to pick them up after a while and told my coach. He immediately pulled my friend off. Apparently my friend had pulled a muscle.
People can redeem them selves through singing
Nelly was heading to a protest and got a lot of back lash and he criticized black people. But Nelly recently took those words to heart and started a scholarship for Mike Brown to lend a helping hand.
Neil young wrote a powerful song called "The needle and the damage done" despite having avoided a reputation for drug use, but he has since come clean. He has avoided drugs ever since his experiences with the drugs and specifically Heroin.
Pink was a drug a dealer when she was young and she cooked acid. But she redeemed herself when she got interested in singing and became a singing sensation for all teen girls around the world.
People can leave a legacy through science
Pythagoras was the first Greek to think that the Earth was round. This was revolutionary at his time. Many people fought against him. Well to all those people who did not believe him I say to you "SCIENCE."
Francis Crick is known for making the double helix. We would not know what DNA looks like if he did not create the double helix.
Dr. Royal Raymond Rife is known for having found a possible solve to cancer. 14 out of the 16 patients deemed terminally ill with cancer. This is amazing because 7 out of 8 people survive this treatment.
Governments have a social responsibility to protect their people
During World War 2 the Japanese attacked the United States. The government immediately had to respond and they did. Eventually the Americans put an end to the war and emerged victorious.
During the dust bowl our governments tried to take care of the people effected. They would set up make shift homes for people who had lost theirs in the dust. We learned about the Dust Bowl in Science
After 9/11 The United States reacted immediately by making security stronger and launching the military to find Osama Bin Laden. We read about this in the article ¨From Terror To Hope¨
People can redeem themselves through acting
Marry Kate Olsen got addicted to cocaine.Acting for full house didn't give her time to do cocaine and she quit cocaine after a little help from rehab too.
Alec Baldwin struggled with drug addiction. He found himself through rehab and acting. Acting drew him away from drugs because he did not want to give up his career.
Drew Barrymore battled drugs in her teenage years. Acting took up too much time giving her not enough time to do drugs. She now is a great actor and dose not take drugs.
